Comcast revealed on Wednesday it is launching 1 Gbps to its residential customers throughout Colorado, the Oregon/SW Washington region, suburban Kansas City, Mo., and Olathe, Kan., service areas. The gigabit service uses existing lines that are already in most people’s homes, but customers will need a DOCSIS 3.1 compatible cable modem capable of delivering gigabit speeds.
The service is going for $159.95/month without a contract, but Comcast says it is testing a $109.99/month promotional price in a few markets. “Additional prices and promotions may be tested in the future,” the operator notes. More information is here.
Comcast has previously rolled out a 2 gigabit service in most of its markets over fiber, but that option requires professional installation and goes for around $300/month.
