Comcast has deployed its DOCSIS 3.1-powered 1 Gbps internet offering across five new markets in Florida, making the service now available to residential and business customers throughout most of the company’s footprint in the Sunshine State.
The latest service additions include Orlando, Southwest Florida, Tallahassee, West Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast.
Comcast’s 1 Gbps internet service, which leverages the operator’s existing network infrastructure using DOCSIS 3.1 technology, first launched in Florida in the Jacksonville and Miami areas in 2017, and expanded last month to Lake County, Panama City and Sarasota.
“Comcast is now delivering gigabit speeds across much of Florida over a network that already serves thousands of homes and businesses,” said Javier Garcia, SVP of sales and marketing for Comcast’s Florida Region, in a statement. “As consumers and small businesses across the state continue to rely even more heavily on the internet, we have the advanced technology in place to meet this growing demand.”
Residential customers can purchase the 1 gigabit service for $139.95 per month without a contract, though Comcast noted bundled product pricing is also available.
Customers will need to upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.1-capable modem, such as Comcast’s xFi Advanced Gateway, which was rolled out in early December.
