Comcast Cable Communications Inc. launched its high-definition television service in Port Charlotte (Fla.) on Monday.
The service — with programming for the Showtime, HBO, NBC and ABC networks — will be available for the cable provider’s 35,000 customers in Charlotte County.
The HDTV service was launched in Sarasota County in December.
Customers who subscribe to Comcast’s digital cable and have televisions that can adapt to the high-definition programming can use the technology.
“Comcast is committed to bringing our customers more and better choices for in-home entertainment,” said Rod Dagenais, Comcast’s vice president and general manager. “In an increasingly competitive environment, we’ve made significant investments to upgrade our fiber optic cable network to provide our customers with a strong lineup of cutting-edge products, including digital cable and high-speed Internet service, and now HDTV.
“Customers want HDTV and Comcast will make it easy and cost-effective while providing a very rich HDTV content offering.”
