Comcast has partnered with Yale Locks & Hardware for more smart home devices that are compatible with the company’s Xfinity Home security and automation offering.
With the integration, Xfinity Home customers can control and monitor compatible locks from Yale’s Assure Lock line with their mobile from wherever they are, when combined with a Yale Zigbee Network Module.
Users can create rules, for example to be notified if the door is unlocked after a certain time. They can also remotely lock and unlock doors and check lock status.
In addition, the Yale locks can be controlled with Comcast’s X1 remote, so Xfinity TV subscribers can say commands like “Lock the front door” while in their home.
Up to four Yale locks, which feature key-free or keyed locks with either touchscreen or pushbutton options, can be added to the Xfinity Home app.
“Smart door locks can be a meaningful home security addition, especially when combined with other IoT devices like cameras,” said Patti Loyack, VP of IP services, and home automation for Comcast Cable, in a statement. “Xfinity’s platform gives consumers the ability to manage and control all of their smart devices in one unified experience and we’re excited to give our customers even more choice by integrating the Assure Lock line from Yale.”
This is the latest smart home device vendor that has teamed up with Comcast on home automation through the company’s ‘Works with Xfinity’ program, which it launched this year as it expanded smart home control capabilities across its Xfinity product portfolio.
Comcast has integrated 12 other smart home partners, including door locks from August and Kwikset, lighting from Philips Hue and GE, and thermostats from Nest and Ecobee. In April, Comcast integrated Tile’s connected devices that can track a person’s keys, wallet or other items.
Comcast now has more than 1.2 million Xfinity Home subscribers.
