Comcast-NBC Universal announced today that it is launching Seeso, its own play for an OTT video subscription service. What makes Seeso different from its competitors? Seeso is emphasizing NBC Universal’s deep well of comedy material, as it is exclusively a comedy channel app.
Seeso will run subscribers $3.99 a month, and will feature clips—and one has to assume, eventually full episodes– from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Office, Parks and Rec and other shows in NBC Universal’s comedy portfolio. The channel also promises 20 original series in 2016—including one from Amy Poehler—and has acquired the rights to shows that aren’t streaming anywhere else right now: Kids in the Hall and Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
The announcement of Seeso makes clear that NBC will not be pulling its shows off Netflix or Hulu, instead it sees Seeso as a complement to its other OTT content options.
