Thanks to an expanded deal, Comcast is now able to offer its subscribers more CBS video content both online and in video-on-demand.
Comcast customers will now be able to tap into past seasons of CBS’ “The Good Wife” on its Xfinity Streampix service while keeping up with the current season via its Xfinity On Demand platform. Xfinity Streampix will also carry every past season of the WB hit show “Charmed.”
Financial terms of the expanded agreement weren’t released.
“We are pleased to bring even more CBS programming to Comcast’s customers,” said Scott Koondel, chief corporate content licensing officer, CBS Corporation. “Adding Streampix as an SVOD partner will enable more fans to catch up on past episodes and in turn support in-season viewership. And it also provides CBS with yet another way to monetize our content.”
Streaming video content was one of the main bones of contention during CBS and Time Warner Cable’s recent retransmission kerfuffle.
Comcast also scored more current primetime TV shows for its VOD service and online portal, Xfinity.com, at no additional cost to its subscribers.
Xfinity TV customers can now catch-up and stay current with an expanded selection of CBS’ returning shows such as “2 Broke Girls,” “Person of Interest” and “The Mentalist,” as well as new premiering series such as “The Crazy Ones” and “Mom.”
CBS will also make additional episodes of select series available throughout the season to provide viewers more opportunities to catch up.
“It’s a good formula for everyone – consumers, programmers and distributors,” said Matt Strauss, senior vice president and general manager, video cervices, Comcast Cable. “As more and more customers turn to our platform to catch-up and keep up with their favorite shows, we will continue to expand both our selection of current season TV choices with Xfinity On Demand, as well as our collection of past TV favorites through Xfinity Streampix. Our expanded partnership with CBS is an important addition to our ever-growing catalog and provides even greater value to our customers.”
