Comcast has beefed up its high-definition (HD) tier in Oregon and southwest Washington State with the addition of 11 new HD channels, and the MSO is offering its AnyRoom service to digital customers.
The new HD channels will include: Disney Channel HD, ABC Family Channel HD, Discovery Channel HD, TLC HD, Science Channel HD, Food Network HD, Animal Planet HD, SciFi HD, CNN HD, AMC HD and TBS HD. In addition to the HD channels, the NHL Network will launch in standard-definition (SD) on Comcast’s sports and entertainment tier.
Comcast’s AnyRoom service allows customers to select video-on-demand (VOD) programs on one TV and view them on any other TV in the home with a Motorola digital set-top box (STB). Comcast’s digital cable customers who have VOD service do not need to make any changes or add equipment to use the free AnyRoom feature.
In order to provision the AnyRoom service, Comcast associates customer accounts with its VOD backoffice to start an on-demand offering in one room and then finish it in another room.
AnyRoom made its debut in New Jersey last month (story here), and Comcast said the service would be rolled out in other markets this year. Comcast plans to offer the service on Scientific Atlanta STBs later this year.
