Comcast strengthens HD hand in Philly area

Comcast has beefed up its HD lineup in its hometown of Philadelphia and other areas of its Freedom Region with the addition of 50 new HD networks.

Thanks to its Project Cavalry all-digital initiative, Comcast has added the channels in all areas of greater Philadelphia, including the city itself and Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties, as well as additional communities in its Freedom Region.

The networks added included BET HD, Cartoon HD, Comedy Central HD, Lifetime HD and MSNBC HD. All told, Comcast has added a total of 59 new HD channels with the additional bandwidth that was reclaimed from the analog-to-digital conversion.

Comcast said hundreds of communities within the region’s footprint, which includes 2.5 million customers in the greater Philadelphia area, New Jersey and northern Delaware, have benefited from the all-digital conversion project and have already seen at least 50 new HD channels launched as a result. Comcast said Project Cavalry will be wrapped up in the remaining parts of the region by the end of this year.

“From the southern suburbs of Philadelphia to northern New Jersey, we hear daily from customers who have benefited from the digital upgrades,” said Amy Smith, senior vice president for the Comcast Freedom Region. “The addition of new HD channels has played a major role in improving the Comcast experience for our customers, and we intend to continue expanding their level of choice and value.”
