Comcast Technology Solutions, a new division of Comcast Cable, was unveiled Wednesday, bringing together three of the company’s media and technology businesses (Comcast Wholesale, thePlatform and This Technology). It will be led by Matt McConnell as SVP and GM, who was recently tapped to power Time Inc.’s new People/Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN) across multiple platforms.
“Comcast Technology Solutions is at the nexus of broadcast and IP convergence,” McConnell says. “By bringing our technologies together, we provide the greatest breadth and depth of media distribution, management and monetization solutions in the industry.”
PEN launched about a month ago and is a free, advertising-supported network with live and on-demand programming. The service is “always on,” meaning when viewers access PEN they are instantly get streaming programming in the same was as tuning in to a broadcast or cable channel. Programming features exclusive celebrity interviews, pop culture coverage, and documentaries from People, Entertainment Weekly and fellow Time Inc. Brands.
Comcast Technology Solutions enabled the new platform with a portfolio of broadcast and digital solutions, including the mpx advanced monetization and commerce engine and Comcast’s purpose-built infrastructure. Comcast Technology Solutions also partnered with Perfect Sense Digital to create the user interface (UI), visual design and front-end development using the Brightspot user experience platform.
