Comcast has come up with yet another way of engaging customers across its vast VOD library with next week’s kick off of “The People’s Hot list on Xfinity On Demand” campaign, which allows subscribers to vote for their favorite summer movies and shows.
On July 14 Comcast will post a mashup of the 200 “must-see” movies and TV shows from this summer. The on demand content will be broken down by categories such as “Teen Favorites,” “Sitcoms & Satires,” “Oscar Nominees,” “Epic Romances,” “Family Hits,” and “Guilty Pleasures,” according to a blog by Andy Hunter, vice president of programming for Comcast Cable.
The video content will span the Xfinity On Demand library and include free, transactional and for purchase movies and TV shows, such as “Teen Wolf,” “Ray Donovan,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” and “Frozen.”
“For two weeks, our Xfinity TV customers will vote for their summer favorites each time they watch a movie or TV show,” Hunter wrote. “Then on July 25, we’ll release The People’s Hot List, the top 100 most-watched movies and TV shows as chosen by our customers.”
Events like The People’s Hot List are part of Comcast’s ongoing effort to help its subscribers find and discover content from its on demand library that features more than 55,000 choices.
Earlier this year, Comcast’s “Watchathon Week” set records for VOD consumption with 61 million views and 50 million hours of spend binging. It also proved to be a driving force for increasing ratings for some shows such as “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife” and “The Walking Dead.” https://www.cedmagazine.com/news/2014/04/viewers-binge-on-comcast’s-latest-watchathon-week
Comcast was an early pioneer of the TV Everywhere concept back in 2009 when it joined forces with Time Warner. Since then, the nation’s largest cable operator has enabled multi-screen streams across computers, Android and Apple devices, game consoles and through its own Web portal.
