Using hotspots provided by Comcast, Universal Orlando Resort has luanched a new Wi-Fi app that lets theme park attendees check out waiting times on rides as well as use interactive maps to help find park destinations.
The Universal Orlando Resort App is available as a free download for Apple and Android mobile devices. Users don’t have to be Comcast subscribers to tap into the Wi-Fi hotspots across both Universal Orlando theme parks – Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida – and at Universal CityWalk.
Wi-Fi coverage includes all of the main walkways, most indoor dining and shopping venues, plus attraction queue lines. In a company blog, Comcast said it has installed hundreds of Wi-Fi access points across the parks.
Additional features, such as e-commerce purchases, social media sharing, and customizable itineraries, will be added to the app in the future.
In April Comcast said it planned on having 8 million hotspots live by the end of this year, some of which will emanate from businesses, outdoor locations and neighborhood hotspots with second SSIDs in customers’ gateways.
