Comcast will serve up State of the Union in VOD

January 27, 2010 By Mike Robuck

Add a president’s first State of the Union address to appointment TV with Comcast’s announcement today that President Obama’s speech, and the Republican response to it, will be available in on-demand mode.

Tonight’s State of the Union address will be available in Comcast’s VOD tier starting tomorrow, as will the Republicans’ reaction by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.

“News junkies and politicos alike can relive historic events from the past year, learn more about today’s issues and get the latest State of the Union news in one place,” said Derek Harrar, senior vice president and general manager of video and entertainment services for Comcast. “We continue to deliver the most relevant current events on-demand to give consumers an opportunity to watch important issues and events on their schedule.”

Beginning today, content from Bloomberg TV that highlights a variety of topical issues, including many of President Obama’s speeches from his first year in office and his biography, will also be available via on-demand.

Comcast said its State of the Union on-demand programming was aimed at keeping viewers informed about current events and follows past offerings that include: the 2008 Republican National Convention, 2008 Democratic National Convention, 2008 Presidential and Vice Presidential Debates, 2004 Presidential and Vice Presidential debates, and former President Gerald R. Ford’s memorial service.

Comcast will also have plenty of coverage of the State of the Union address through its linear TV lineup that includes CNBC, CNN, CNN Headline News, Fox New and MSNBC.

A frequency you can count on There are few constants in life, but what few there are might include death, taxes, and a U.S. grid frequency that doesn’t vary by more than ±0.5 Hz. However, the certainty of the grid frequency is coming into question, thanks to the rising percentage of renewable energy sources that…
