Ever found your TV service somewhat lame when you check into a hotel? Consumers used to advanced video services at home tend not to be happy when they’re in a hotel with limited service, so Comcast is looking to tackle that issue with plans to trial the X1 video platform to Comcast Business customers for the first time. It’s beginning with a hospitality industry test this summer with Philadelphia hotels.
“Comcast is poised to disrupt the $3 billion U.S. business TV market with X1 for Business,” Greg Ireland, multiscreen video analyst at IDC, observes. “Products and solutions that have generated excellent results on the residential side can help businesses, particularly in the hospitality industry, gain an edge in attracting new and returning consumers.”
X1 features to be trialed with hotels include voice control, pause/rewind of live TV and free-to-guest on-demand. It’ll also offer the X1 Sports app that offers real-time scores and stats for sports like baseball, football, basketball and NASCAR, alongside the in-game action.
Visual disability accessibility as well as language-of-choice features for channel listings and programming from English to Spanish will be offered.
“X1 has transformed entertainment for our residential customers, and starting our X1 B2B trials with hotels is a natural extension as this industry focuses on providing guests with all of the comforts from home, including a great TV watching experience,” Denice Hasty, SVP, marketing and product management at Comcast Business, says.
