Comcast’s general manager in Augusta, Ga., is set to join rival over-builder Knology as its new general manager in the same market.

According to a story in yesterday’s The Augusta Chronicle, Abu Khan is leaving his roles as Comcast’s vice president and general manager in Augusta on Friday to become Knology’s general manager in Augusta on Monday.

Khan had a 15-year tenure in various roles for Comcast before making the switch to Knology.

“Abu Khan, general manager of Comcast’s operations in Augusta, has left the company to pursue other opportunities. Comcast sincerely thanks him for his leadership and wishes him well in his endeavors,” Comcast wrote in a statement provided to CED this morning. “Comcast continues to be the leader and video provider of choice in Augusta.”

Augusta is the location of Comcast’s next-generation Xcalibur trial, which is headed to a major market next year. After several years of rumors, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts demonstrated the IP- and cloud-based, next-generation service at The Cable Show earlier this year.

Augusta was also the location for one of Comcast’s first business-class rollouts of its DOCSIS 3.0-based 100 Mbps tier.

According to the newspaper story, Khan will replace Mike Adams as Augusta’s general manager.

Knology recently added 19 HD channels in its Augusta market. Knology has largely completed its DOCSIS 3.0 rollouts and plans on reclaiming bandwidth with digital terminal adapters (DTAs) starting this year before rolling them out more broadly next year.
