The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), a non-profit public-private partnership, announced that Comcast Cable’s executive director of security and privacy Jay Opperman has joined its board of directors.
Opperman has more than 33 years of experience in the telecommunications and data communications markets and has served in a wide range of roles, including systems engineering, architecture, strategic product marketing and management.
“Jay is one of the leading security and privacy professionals in the country. His work at Comcast making the Internet safer and more secure is directly relevant to NCSA’s mission,” said Michael Kaiser, executive director of the National Cyber Security Alliance. “We’re looking forward to working with Jay and Comcast on expanding and enhancing NCSA programs.”
At Comcast, Opperman is responsible for developing and implementing cross-platform security strategies for Comcast’s Xfinity customers. Opperman was credited as the founder of Comcast’s Constant Guard program, which is the MSO’s umbrella brand name for its security and safety suite of features that are included with the company’s Xfinity Internet service.
“The NCSA board includes a diverse representation of companies and organizations that are all doing their part to help the Internet become a safer environment for all,” Opperman said. “I’m thrilled to represent Comcast as part of this accomplished group and look forward to furthering NCSA’s mission to empower digital citizens to control their digital footprint.”
Opperman has also served on other various organizational boards, including the Internet Society (ISOC), an organization that helps to develop Internet-related standards, education and policies. He is also a member of the NTIA’s Online Safety Technology Working Group and the CSRIC Botnet Remediation Working Group and is a FOSI Outstanding Achievement award winner.
Through collaboration with the government, corporate, non-profit and academic sectors, the mission of the NCSA is to educate people on how to use Internet securely and safely. NCSA board members include: ADP, AT&T, Bank of America, EMC Corp., ESET, Facebook, Google, Intel, McAfee, Microsoft, PayPal, Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), Symantec, Trend Micro, Verizon and Visa.
