OMNIVISION has announced the new OG0TC BSI global shutter (GS) image sensor for eye and face tracking in AR/VR/MR consumer headsets and glasses. This release marks the introduction of OMNIVISION’s patented DCG high dynamic range (HDR) technology to the AR/VR/MR market in the 2.2-micron (µm) pixel OG0TC GS image sensor.
The OG0TC has a package size of 1.64mm x 1.64mm, designed for optimizing primarily inward-facing tracking cameras. This compact form factor allows for multiple cameras to track various aspects of the face in industrial designs. The OG0TC is pin-to-pin compatible with OMNIVISION’s previous-generation BSI GS image sensor, facilitating easy upgrades.
The OG0TC BSI GS image sensor reduces power consumption by over 40% compared to the previous-generation OG0TB sensor. This improvement is significant for battery-powered AR/VR devices where power efficiency is crucial. The pin-to-pin compatibility allows customers to upgrade to the OG0TC without modifying their existing designs.
The OG0TC image sensor is built on OMNIVISION’s PureCelPlus-S stacked-die technology and features the patented DCG™ HDR technology. It offers 400×400 resolution with a 2.2µm pixel in a 1/14.46-inch optical format. The sensor incorporates Nyxel technology for quantum efficiency at the 940nm near-infrared (NIR) wavelength, enabling clear images of moving objects. Its high modulation transfer function contributes to image sharpness and detail.
OMNIVISION has made the OG0TC GS image sensor available for sampling and mass production. The company expects the single-exposure DCG™ HDR technology to provide ghost-free image capture in the AR/VR market, building on its success in the security, mobile, and automotive industries.
