Liberty Global, the largest international cable operator, has tapped into real-time data processing and quality of experience reporting for its Horizon Go app via a deal with Conviva.
Liberty Global currently has Horizon Go launched in seven European countries with more to come, according to Conviva.
The Horizon Go app, which works on both iOS and Android operating systems, lets Liberty Global customers watch live TV and on-demand content on their laptops, tablets and smartphones inside and outside of their homes. The content can also be accessed via a Web portal. Customers with a Horizon TV set-top box can also use the app as a remote control.
On its third quarter earnings call earlier this month, Liberty Global President and CEO Mike Fries referred to the Horizon platform as the company’s “killer app” that was inducing its 3.2 million next generation video customers to watch more TV, churn less and spend more.
Conviva said its real-time big data processing ensures that viewers get a quality video experience by providing Liberty Global with a granular look at their viewing experiences. Conviva provides publishers the aggregated information they need to control the video delivery for a high quality experience without buffering and at the best quality possible.
Conviva will also arm Liberty Global with real-time diagnostics and alerts, across all devices, to identify potential issues that could hamper the viewing experience as well as opportunities to improve overall quality.
“Horizon Go users have high expectations for the quality of experience the platform will provide as they navigate and discover new content,” said Ian Franklyn, general manager, EMEA for Conviva. “When looking to deliver high quality video to a large audience across several countries and devices, it is critical content providers have real-time visibility and control of the video delivery and viewer experience. Conviva provides the basis to scale a high-quality Internet TV business with up-to-the second visibility into the video delivery chain.”
In August, Conviva announced it had signed a deal with EchoStar Technologies to use its video optimization platform on Dish Network’s IP-based Dish Anywhere and DishWorld services.
Conviva’s customer roster also includes NBCUniversal, HBO, Ziggo, ESPN/Disney, Virgin Media, Viacom, Starz, and Verizon.
