CopperGate Communications has rolled out a HomePNA-based chipset that is designed to work in multiple-dwelling units and hospitality environments.
The CopperGate CG3210M chipset delivers up to 190 Mbps of IP traffic for one-third of the price of DOCSIS 3.0-based platforms, the company said.
To achieve the faster speed, CopperGate doubled the communications bandwidth of the chipset, which it said enables twice as many apartments to communicate with each master device, resulting in a 50 percent lower cost per apartment.
With the chipset, more than 60 end points in apartments or hotel rooms can be supported with a single master device.
Based on HomePNA, the application uses the existing coax infrastructure and is known as Ethernet over Coax (EoC).
