Acknowledging the high demand for fiber, Corning expects to boost its fiber manufacturing capacity by 25 percent through 2004, starting with expansion at its North Carolina production facilitiy.
The Corning board of directors voted in favor of a plan to invest $450 million in the North Carolina plant. Corning, the world’s largest fiber-optic cable firm, said the Concord, N.C. facility is soon to be the largest fiber plant in the world.
The N.Y.-based company just launched a new ad campaign, as CED previously reported, to further its image as a telecommunications enabler, rather than kitchenware maker.
