Cox is folding Cox Communications of Middle Georgia into its Florida division as part of an operational realignment.
Four Cox Middle Georgia senior executives will lose their jobs due to the reorganization, according to the Macon Telegraph. Senior vice president and general manager Mike Dyer will retire as part of the consolidation while Leanne Beighey, vice president of human resources, Guy Boyle, vice president of business operations, and Karen Whitaker, vice president of customer relations are also leaving.
Keith Gregory, senior vice president and general manager of Cox Florida, will lead the newly formed Cox Florida Georgia Region.
A spokeswoman for Cox told the newspaper that some workforce reductions and transfers were likely, but the details of the transition would be released over the coming months.
According to the Macon Telegraph, Cox Middle Georgia has about 200 employees and serves the counties of Bibb, Houston and Monroe.
Cable operators have been consolidating their systems and divisions over the past few years to improve their operational efficiencies.
“We’ve been on a path toward greater alignment for some time, positioning ourselves competitively with a view to future growth,” Cox spokesman David Grabert said in an e-mail this morning. “The merger between our operations in Middle Georgia and Florida follow other successful efforts we did in 2008 and 2009; examples include the alignment of our Virginia operations under Gary McCollum and our Louisiana systems under Jacqui Vines.
“Cox has a history of great success in aligning operations; I would point to the merger or our businesses in Arizona (Tucson and Phoenix) which created our largest system.”
