Cox Communications is rolling out its WiFi hotspots in Arizona, bringing connectivity to public, high-traffic areas.
Cox WiFi is currently available in a variety of markets: Connecticut, Northern Virginia, Omaha, Ne., Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Rhode Island. The addition of hotspots in Tucson and the greater Phoenix metropolitan area brings the number of Cox WiFi hotspots to over 10,000 nationwide, all of which are deployed in public places such as businesses, hotels, restaurants, and malls.
“WiFi plays an important role in keeping people mobilized,” said Lewis Roberts, executive director of wireless broadband access, in a press release. “By adding these additional hotspots, Cox is able to deliver reliable high-speed Internet service to our customers in their homes and on the go.”
People who want to connect with Cox WiFi will need to have a Cox user ID and password in order to log in. Once they’ve done so, they can browse the Internet as if they were at home.
The Cox website and the Cox Connect app can be used to find the location of nearby hotspots, plus directions to the appropriate places. After a device has connected once, it will automatically search for and log in to other Cox WiFi hotspots.
Cox is a member of the CableWiFi consortium. The consortium’s WiFi network, the largest in the nation, includes more than 400,000 hotspots in the United States.
