Due to merging its Middle Georgia system with Cox Florida, Cox has laid off about 70 workers in Georgia.
According to the Macon Telegraph, yesterday’s job cuts will be wrapped up in early September, although some employees will leave before then.
A spokeswoman for Cox Middle Georgia told the newspaper that about 50 new jobs will be created due to the consolidation of Middle Georgia with Cox Florida, but most of the new jobs will be in the Cox Florida markets. Cox is providing relocation assistance, and “priority consideration will be provided to employees who accept positions outside the Middle Georgia market.”
Last month, Cox realigned Middle Georgia with Cox Florida to increase operational efficiencies.
Four of Cox’s top executives in Middle Georgia lost their jobs due to the consolidation. Senior vice president and general manager Mike Dyer will retire after the transition is finished, while Leanne Beighey, vice president of human resources, Guy Boyle, vice president of business operations, and Karen Whitaker, vice president of customer relations, are also leaving.
According to the Macon Telegraph, Cox Middle Georgia has about 200 employees and serves the counties of Bibb, Houston and Monroe.
