Cox top op for women in cable

December 7, 2009 By Brian Santo

Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Bright House Networks and Suddenlink Communications topped the list of the 2009 Best Operators for Women in Cable.

Among that group, Cox was designated for the Forerunner Accolade Award – for the seventh time in the seven years the award has been handed out.

The 2009 Best Programmers for Women in Cable are Discovery Communications (Forerunner Accolade), Turner Broadcasting System, NBC Universal, Scripps Networks and Lifetime Entertainment Services.

The awards are given by Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT), whose WICT PAR Initiative is conducted in collaboration with Working Mother Media. PAR stands for pay equity, advancement opportunities and resources for work/life.

“This year, WICT’s PAR Initiative identifies impressive gains for women in several categories, and the industry continues to raise the bar on equitable pay standards,” said Parthavi Das, WICT’s senior vice president of strategy and initiatives. “Additionally, women are approaching parity with their male colleagues in business to business operations, and although there is still work to be done, WICT is proud to document these advances.”

The 2009 Best Companies for Women in Cable for Advancement Opportunities are Scripps Networks, Cox, Comcast, Bright House and Turner Broadcasting System.

The 2009 Best Companies for Women in Cable for Resources for Work/Life Support are Cox, Discovery, Turner Broadcasting System, NBC and Time Warner Cable.

Maria Brennan, president and CEO of WICT, said: “On behalf of all WICT’s stakeholders, we want to thank those companies that participated in this year’s PAR Initiative. The information provided within the report is crucial in helping us monitor and improve progress where gender diversity is concerned.”

A frequency you can count on There are few constants in life, but what few there are might include death, taxes, and a U.S. grid frequency that doesn’t vary by more than ±0.5 Hz.
