Cox Communications is doubling the download speed of its Preferred residential high-speed Internet service in northern Virginia and is increasing the speed of its Premier service by 33 percent.
And with the addition of PowerBoost technology, customers in the region will experience faster upload speeds, as well, for both the Preferred and Premier packages. PowerBoost for uploads is an extension of the PowerBoost technology that Cox rolled out for downloads for Preferred and Premier customers last year.
Preferred customers in northern Virginia will experience speeds of up to 12.5 Mbps down/2.5 Mbps up, and Premier customers will go up to 25 Mbps down/3.5 Mbps up.
Customers will get the speed increases automatically in July, the company said, without the need for a call or technician visit.
“We recognize that our customers are spending more time using their Internet service and are enjoying newer and sometimes more intensive applications that can benefit from still faster speeds,” stated Janet Barnard, SVP and GM for Cox Northern Virginia. “The faster speeds we’re rolling out to Northern Virginia ensure that Cox customers can spend more time doing what they want online and less time waiting.”
This week, Cox Arizona increased the speeds of its high-speed Internet service (story here). The free upgrade for subscribers has already been implemented.
In Cox’s Arizona market, Preferred customers can experience speeds of up to 12 Mbps down/1 Mbps up, and Premier customers can go up to 20 Mbps down/2 Mbps up.
