A new multi-platform network dedicated exclusively to all things Cuba will launch following the FCC’s recent relaxation of restrictions related to services in the country.
The new combination video on demand and linear cable network, dubbed CubaNetwork, will include programming in both English and Spanish. Headquartered in Hollywood, California, the network will also have a production studio in Havana.
CubaNetwork said it hopes to capitalize on American curiosity about Cuba by providing a content line-up of Cuban-made documentaries, TV movies, telenovelas and age-targeted entertainment series. The network also has exclusive rights to many live Cuban sports including baseball, boxing, basketball and soccer.
CubaNetwork said it work with content service company Vubiquity to reach both service providers and digital-first audiences, and will utilize Vubiquity’s cloud platform and OTT capabilities to facilitate its video on demand and mobile app offerings.
