Caribbean and Latin American operator C&W Networks, which is now part of Liberty Global, announced it was awarded MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) certification for its E-Line, E-LAN, E-TREE, and E-ACCESS services utilizing Juniper Networks MX Series 3D universal edge routers. The MEF program aims at ensuring equipment and services abide by MEF standards and enable carrier-grade interoperability. An overview is available here.
C&W Networks President Paul Scott says the work put into achieving the certification underlines the company’s commitment to carrier-class Ethernet interconnectivity in the area of the world it serves, and also gives a nod to its plans to provide further scale and even more extended reliability in the future. “Upgrading to the latest MEF CE 2.0 certification, we are able to precisely demonstrate the continued high performance, reliability, and network scalability, according to exacting standards our customers require, while also paving the way for future innovations and increased service quality,” he comments.
The testing process is said to be very rigorous, and involves a full set of requirements including performance and bandwidth profiles. C&W Networks International MPLS Ethernet Network was reportedly certified MEF 2.0 ready in June using Juniper MX104, MX240, MX480, and MX960 routers.
The MX routers originally rolled out in 2006, and since then the series has boasted what was said to be the highest capacity edge router with the MX2020 in 2012, and the first full-featured, carrier-grade virtual router with the vMX in 2014. Juniper Networks reports that it has sold an MX router every hour since the series was unveiled.
“Juniper Networks MX Routers are present in 92 percent of the world’s largest telecommunications companies and have been able to drive total cost of ownership reductions of over 49 percent on average,” Manuel Terrero, senior sales director at Juniper Networks CALA, says.
