Tesla Motors has received more pre-orders for the $35,000 Model 3 than the number of cars they have sold in the past four years combined. As of Friday, 276,000 people put down a $1,000 deposit on the all-electric sedan. That’s more than twice the number of Model S and Model X cars delivered in 2015. Such a large jump in numbers will force Tesla to prove that they can meet the demand, something that will take all the resources of the massive Gigafactory to achieve.
Deliveries of the Model 3 are expected to begin in late 2017 and will progress geographically, starting on the West Coast in North America.
