Broadcom said its HD set-top-box system-on-a-chip (SoC) with integrated MoCA connectivity is being used in DirecTV’s new H25 multi-room HD receivers.
The semiconductor vendor said its BCM7340 chip reduces overall cost and power requirements for deploying whole-home connected STBs.
DirecTV’s H25 HD receiver began shipping this month.
Other features of the chip include advanced audio/video decompression supporting the H.264 standard, support for onscreen graphics, a CPU that improves overall system performance and security technologies, compared with the performance of the H24 receiver.
Henry Derovanessian, DirecTV’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, said: “We continue to provide our customers with both the best viewing and user experience. With the introduction of the H25, DirecTV can offer a small form factor, high-performance, whole-home connected set-top box that allows our customers to mount the receiver on a wall behind their flat-panel TVs without the clutter of an entertainment center.”
