DirecTV says it will broadcast baseball’s All-Star Game in 3-D, on its n3D channel it set up with Panasonic.
DirecTV said it will be the exclusive provider of the game in 3-D. It’s a bit of marketing tit-for-tat. Earlier this season, cable operators had exclusive rights to The Masters golf tournament.
This past weekend, Cox and Verizon broadcast two of the Yankees-Mariners games in 3-D.
DirecTV is touting the All-Star Game as the first national broadcast of a Major League Baseball game in 3-D. It won’t be the first national broadcast of a 3-D event, however. Several providers, DirecTV included, delivered the Nascar Coke Zero 400 race in 3-D last weekend.
