DirecTV turned on its own whole-home DVR service, which is now available to its DVR customers across its footprint.
The other TVs must be hooked up to their own HD receivers. The first HD receiver is apparently free; the second and each additional HD receiver come with a monthly lease fee of $5 per month.
Though up to 15 TVs can be connected, the website says that the DVR allows viewers to record a maximum of two shows while viewing two others.
DirecTV’s whole-home DVR service costs an extra $3 per month (HD service is $10 per month and DVR service is $7 per month), and it allows customers to record and watch TV on up to 15 TVs with a single HD DVR.
Various other news outlets and blogs have reported that some DirecTV customers awoke to find their DVRs requiring a reboot to become operable again, and that some have required even more attention.
Other features of the service include:
- Access to a single, combined playlist of all of their recorded programs on any connected television in the home
- DVR controls in every room, including record, delete, pause and rewind functionality
- Stop a recorded show in one room and continue watching in a different room
- Manage DVR playlist from any connected room
- Set separate parental controls for each TV
- Watch recorded shows in HD in any connected room.
