DirecTV has begun offering local HD programming in three additional markets: Memphis, Tenn.; Portland, Ore.; and San Antonio, Texas.
The addition of the three brings to 39 the total number of major markets in which DirecTV offers local HD service. DirecTV is shooting for 50 by the end of this year.
The HD signals of WHBQ/FOX and WMC/NBC are now being carried by DirecTV in Memphis. The company is working on a deal to broadcast the local CBS and ABC affiliates.
In Portland, DirecTV is now carrying KPTV/FOX and KGW/NBC, and is negotiating to broadcast the CBS and ABC affiliates.
In the San Antonio market, the DBS provider has added KENS/CBS, KSAT/ABC and KABB/FOX. DirecTV is still negotiating carriage with the local NBC affiliate.
