Want some 4K TV with your wings and the football game at your local sports bar? AT&T wants to provide it. AT&T revealed this week that it now offers 4K ultra high definition (UHD) video content to businesses via DirecTV, including live sports. It also says it’s the first provider in the United States to do so.
“Many of our bar and restaurant customers cater to sports fans. Now, with 4K UHD, they can ‘up their game.’ This is also an incredible opportunity for local businesses – waiting rooms, gyms, and salons – to differentiate themselves through enhanced entertainment,” Doug Eichler, VP of commercial sales at AT&T Entertainment Group, comments. “Watching 4K UHD video makes waiting, working out, and watching sports more enjoyable.”
Live 4K UHD content has been a big focus for DirecTV in 2016, particularly sports, including coverage of The Masters at Augusta National earlier this year, as well as Major League Baseball, UFC, and the Rio Olympics. It also has featured music events like a Garth Brooks concert and the Country Music Awards. DirecTV reports it was the first multichannel provider to deliver 4K UHD video programming in November 2014.
Businesses that want to offer 4K UHD from DirecTV need the DirecTV Commercial Xtra Pack/Business Xtra Package or higher, professional installation, the latest HR54 receiver, and offer access to either a DirecTV 4K UHD ready TV or a compatible 4K UHD TV connected to the C61K 4K client.
