DirecTV continues with its 4K sports programming push, this time with an announcement that along with Fox Sports, it will offer a couple college hoops games live in 4K ultra high-definition (UHD). The first is California vs. Stanford on Friday, and on March 1, Washington vs. UCLA will get the 4K UHD treatment. Both games also will be simulcast in HD on FS1.
Last year, AT&T and Fox Networks Group offered access to 4K UHD content from Fox’s sports properties including MLB regular season and playoff games, college football, basketball, and NASCAR. DirecTV also has offered subscribers 4K UHD access to golf, Premier League football, and the Rio Olympics.
Access requires a Genie HD DVR (Model HR54 or later) and a DirecTV 4K-ready TV, or a 4K TV connected to a 4K Genie Mini. Subs need a “Select” package or higher, 4K account authorization, and professional installation required.
In December, AT&T announced that its 4K UHD video content was being offered to businesses such as bar and restaurants via DirecTV, including live sports. More on that is here.
