Cracked smartphone screen? Dead battery? Dish is now in the market to offer consumers an on-the-go repair option, and it’s looking to do it faster and more conveniently than other repair services. Yes, that’s right. The satellite operator known for its pay TV services — and which also offers Internet and phone bundles — is rolling out an onsite repair option for iPhones with plans to move on to other smartphones.
Dish’s “Smart Phone Repair” site says it offers “we come to you” service, licensed technicians and same or next-day repairs depending on when the appointment is requested. Customers don’t have to be subscribers of the company’s other services.
Dish says in a statement about the service that it delivers a technician directly to a customer’s door, and technicians in all 50 states will repair cracked screens and replace batteries on Apple’s iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6 and 6 Plus.
“In the coming months, Dish intends to expand its service to include additional devices and smartphone accessories,” the company reports.
Dish says it uses replacement parts from “respected third parties.” Repair prices are said to be consistent across the country. Additionally, Dish is reporting that it offers service to onsite corporate events, providing a “convenient solution for large-scale repairs on enterprise smartphones and employees’ personal devices.”
“Fixing your phone shouldn’t mean losing your phone for days on end, so we come to you – whether you’re at the office, the gym or even the coffee shop,” John Swieringa, the company’s EVP of operations, says. “Instead of paying $650 or more to replace a smartphone, our technicians step in to extend the life of the phone when a screen shatters or a battery loses its charge.”
Customers can reserve service with a $35 “Drive to Me” travel fee. An online appointment tool allows customers to view their tech’s name, photo and an arrival time of the Dish vehicle.
Dish is hyping success stories on the new site including this one from a customer in St. Paul, Minn.: “I had the battery replaced on my iPhone. Dish did a great job. Was convenient to drop the phone off at a scheduled time and received a call when it was ready to pick up – all during a normal work day and right on campus.”
