Canadian cable operator Eastlink recently launched “Wireless TV” across its footprint, which gives its subscribers the ability to watch TV on up to six sets in a home without cable connections.
The service uses Eastlink’s Maestro DVR, which, according to pictures on Eastlink’s website, is made by Arris. The Arris gateway can record up to six programs at once as well as pause live TV before resuming it anywhere in the home. Eastlink is also using a wireless receiver from Arris to provision the service.
There’s also an ala carte element to Wireless TV as subscribers to Eastlink’s basic digital tier can select individual channels to add to their TV packages.
“The other guys have tried to convince customers that they can do things we can’t. That’s simply not true and never has been,” said Eastlink CEO Lee Bragg. “The voice of the customer drives everything we do. With Eastlink Wireless TV, our customers get an unmatched TV experience, hassle-free whether they’re rearranging their living room or watching the big game on the back patio or in the garage. Eastlink’s wireless receiver eliminates the need for cable wire connections by extending Maestro’s industry leading capabilities to up to six TVs in the home.”
Eastlink Wireless TV subscribers can also use their iPads and iPhones to remotely schedule their DVR recordings and set reminders on their TVs for their favorite shows.
Wireless TV costs $2.95 a month while the Maestro DVR is leased for $19.95 or $30 with 24-hour technical support. Eastlink also charges an installation fee of $49.95.
