Striking its second major deal north of the border this year, Rovi announced that Canadian cable operator Eastlink has signed up to use its iPad app.
Eastlink subscribers that use its remote DVR service are now able to browse TV listings, explore program guides and remotely schedule their DVRs directly from their iPads using Rovi’s TotalGuide xD app.
“We continuously talk to our customers about what they want and need,” said Eastlink CEO Lee Bragg. “They’ve told us that they are looking for products that make their lives easier; this is designed to do exactly that.”
Eastlink, which offers triple play service in eight Canadian provinces and Bermuda, launched its remote DVR service last month.
In April, Cogeco launched two Rovi-developed apps for its subscribers.
Rovi partners with Freescale to provision Android devices
Rovi announced on Thursday that Freescale Semiconductor was releasing an Android chipset certified for it DivX Plus Streaming, which Rovi uses to deliver video to multi-screen devices.
The Freescale i.MX 6Quad applications processor with Android Integrated Circuit (IC) was designed for use in a broad range of consumer electronics (CE) products running the Android operating system and provides a path for the secure over-the-top delivery of HD content.
“IC Certification is a vital early component of the DivX® ecosystem, and Freescale’s certified Android chipset marks a significant milestone in the adoption of DivX Plus Streaming as a premier streaming solution,” said Bob Shallow, senior vice president, product sales and marketing at Rovi. “Streaming is an increasingly significant feature in the consumer electronics arena, and we are pleased that the next generation of connected devices will enable DivX Plus Streaming across a variety of platforms and devices.”
