EchoStar Communications Corp. has become the latest multichannel video provider to join the family-friendly club, unveiling plans to offer a roughly 40-channel package of non-objectionable programming.
Timing its announcement for a Congressional decency hearing in Washington, D.C. Thursday, EchoStar said its new “DishFamily” package will feature such cable networks as Animal Planet, The Biography Channel, Bloomberg Television, CNN Headline News, C-SPAN, Discovery Kids, Food Network, Fox News Channel, Nickelodeon, The Outdoor Channel, TV Land and The Weather Channel, among others. Subscribers will pay $19.99 a month for the package, or $24.99 a month with local broadcast channels.
EchoStar boasted that its family package features a combination of the most channels and the lowest monthly price. The company plans to start offering the tier on Feb. 1.
