EchoStar Satellite Services, a subsidiary of EchoStar, has hired former SiriusXM Radio executive Derek de Bastos as its new chief technology officer.
In his new job, de Bastos is responsible for the procurement, technical direction and technical operations for EchoStar’s satellite fleet and will manage a growing team responsible for systems engineering and program management. He will report to Anders Johnson, president of ESS.
“Derek has managed large-scale satellite systems from conception to in-orbit operation,” said Johnson. “His knowledge and experience will make him a great addition to our executive ranks.”
De Bastos was previously vice president of engineering at SiriusXM Radio, a position he held since Sirius and XM merged in 2008. He was among the first employees of XM Satellite Radio and was the vice president of satellite engineering for nine years preceding the merger. He also held management positions with Worldspace and Lockheed Martin (formerly RCA) Astro Space.
