electronica 2016: technology marvels in Munich

November 29, 2016 By Aimee Kalnoskas Leave a Comment

Small pixel device can take the heat

Because an expensive high-end thermal camera can just be “overkill for some applications,” said Joris Roels, Marketimelexis-2ng Manager with Melexis, the new MLX90640, 32 x 32 pixel  infrared sensor array can be a cost-effective alternative, especially for a number of harsh environment applications.  The device can measure object temperatures  between -40C and 300C with an operational temperature range of 40C to 85C.

Alongside  smaller, and more efficient automotive engine design comes higher temperatures. Melexis also introduced the MLC90342 quadruple thermocouple interfaces specifically designed for the automotive market. With a thermocouple temperature range of -40 C to 1300C and an operating temperature specification from -40C to 155C, “this device gives automotive designers precise and more strict control over a broad temperature range, doubling that of currently available devices” says Roels.
