Ensequence is debuting a “Live Traffic” TV widget for Yahoo Connected TVs that lets viewers see local traffic conditions before they leave their homes for trips.
Before this, Ensequence has specialized in EBIF (and tru2way) applications. This marks the company’s first foray out of the strictly cable market and into the connected TV market in general.
The Live Traffic application on the Yahoo Connected TV Widget Engine is available on connected TVs from Samsung, LG, Vizio, Sony and Toshiba.
The Live Traffic widget provides viewers with a snapshot of traffic conditions before they leave home each morning. It features instant access to a street-level map of viewers’ favorite commuting routes overlaid with up-to-the-minute traffic conditions, construction delays and alerts. The traffic application, powered by MapQuest maps and traffic data, is available 24/7. Viewers can customize the application to their own needs, which includes saving multiple routes.
The company signaled that it will support any interactive TV platform or format desired by customers.
“TV is now being viewed on more and more devices, and we’re going to be there to make it happen for our customers,” said Peter Low, president and CEO of Ensequence.
Ensequence also announced today that it had hired Brian Powell, the founder and former CEO of Devici, to oversee its connected device offering.
Powell was at the helm of Devici since 2007 and was the architect behind more than 150 applications for connected devices across iPhone, Android, Yahoo Connected TV, Samsung, Roku and Boxee platforms.
His resume includes projects with the NBA, AT&T Interactive, McGraw Hill, Belo Corp., Vimeo and Vizio.
