Envivio bows new rev of network management system

Envivio has introduced an enhanced version of its network management system (NMS), a product that enables operators to automate video service features at the service level.

The company also renamed the product. Once known as 4Manager, it will now be referred to as Guru, though it gets to keep its revision number. Guru 4.0 includes a new and improved user interface, as well as tools such as enhanced monitoring, connectivity enhancements, device auto-discovery and scheduled service control.

Automating video service features at the service level improves on the need to adjust specific devices. For example, Envivio said, an operator can use the Guru user interface to schedule blackouts, logo insertion or live-to-file recordings for a specific channel, at a particular day and time.

Based on the Skyline DataMiner NMS, Envivio Guru is designed to maximize video headend availability and reliability by reporting system malfunctions and offering advanced automatic 1+1 and N+M redundancy protection switching.

Guru is integrated with dozens of third-party devices, enabling system compatibility for a wide variety of network architectures, the company noted.

“Envivio Guru is an ideal system for managing multiscreen and traditional broadcast headends from a single platform,” said Arnaud Caron, solution architect for Envivio. “The recent user interface enhancements and introduction of new features including automated service scheduling significantly improve workflow management and communication, thereby reducing operational complexity and cost.”

Video quality can be monitored for all resolutions and bitrates in real-time, to ensure superior quality of experience (QoE) for consumers, across all devices. Guru is designed to provide advanced failover mechanisms, fast restore capabilities thanks to an automatic backup of headend configurations, and system-generated alerts to enable quick problem resolution.
