Envivio is introducing a range of new products, including a transcoder designed to help facilitate IT-centric headend/data center operations, a video processor that can perform ad insertion in multi-screen environments and an API that can help optimize TV Everywhere services.
Envivio’s new transcoder is built on the HP BladeSystem c7000 with ProLiant BL460c series servers and is powered by Envivio Muse, the multi-screen software architecture at the heart of the market-leading Envivio 4Caster platform.
Envivio said this architecture has been selected by a Tier 1 U.S. carrier – which it cannot identify – to power a new, large-scale multi-screen service.
Envivio has also built a stream processor specifically for TV Everywhere. The company’s new Halo system performs packaging and encryption for live and on-demand TV, as well as ad insertion, slate insertion and closed captioning. The system is capable of universal streaming, Envivio said, so that it isn’t necessary to support multiple HTTP origin servers.
Separately, Envivio and Arris have verified a new API from the latter with the Envivio 4Caster multi-screen encoder and Envivio Halo network media processor. This new solution extends an operator’s ability to insert ads into broadcast streams to third screens consuming Apple HTTP Live Streaming formats, such as iPads, iPhones, Android-based devices and PCs. Envivio said this solution will eventually be delivered to a Tier 1 North American cable operator.
