Multi-platform video vendor Epix will be serving up its own original programming, including documentaries, movies, comedies and sporting events, over the summer and fall.
Prior to its foray into creating its own content, Epix was known as a movie channel that offered Hollywood titles, classic feature films, original series and comedy specials from Paramount, MGM, Lionsgate and other studios.
Epix is a joint venture between Viacom, its Paramount Pictures unit, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Studios and Lionsgate. It offers video content on TVs and VOD and on various consumer electronics devices.
The slate of original programming includes a documentary on William Shatner, a new 3-D movie by Roger Corman; a comedy special by Jim Norton; and a movie on Monty Python member Graham Chapman. As for sports, Epix will feature a live super middleweight boxing match on May 26 between Lucian Bute and Carl Froch, followed by a heavyweight championship bout between Wladimir Klitschko and Tony Thompson July 7.
Epix is available to more than 30 million homes nationwide through distribution partners including Charter Communications, Cox Communications, Dish Network, Mediacom Communications, NCTC, Suddenlink Communications and Verizon FiOS.
Last year, Epix released an app that enabled viewing of its content across a range of devices and retail boxes. Epix delivers more than 3,000 titles to authenticated subscribers on EpixHD.com and on hundreds of devices, including Xbox 360 consoles, Android tablets and mobile phones, Roku players, Samsung Smart TVs and Blu-ray players, and iPad and iPhone devices.
