Ericsson Tuesday announced a new initiative to help enable the development and testing of new projects in the area of Software Defined Networking (SDN).
As part of the program, Ericsson is opening a lab called the OpenDaylight community, which will be based at Ericsson’s campus in San Jose, California. The lab will provide an OpenDaylight network environment open to all SDN developers based on an agreed schedule.
Neela Jacques, executive director of OpenDaylight said network programmability and interoperability are two key goals of the OpenDaylight Project.
“It is great to see Ericsson devoting significant resources to support the integration and testing of SDN and NFV innovations and applications coming out of the community,” Jacques said in a statement.
The lab will be launched in conjunction with the inaugural OpenDaylight Summit on February 4-5 2014 in Santa Clara, California. SDN developers can find out the services provided by the lab and schedule work time by mailing to ODLopenlab@ericsson.com
SDN has been creating buzz across the wireless industry, as the technology holds the promie of reducing CapEx and OpEx for wireless operators by “virtualizing” the networks through software.
