Ericsson has introduced the first major revision of its Cloud Manager, adding performance and fault management of virtual resources.
Cloud Manager 2.0 can integrate with legacy systems, programmable networks and third-party ecosystems.
Ericsson developed Cloud Manager as a set of tools that operators can use to begin to virtualize their networks, a process that is expected to improve operational efficiency and support the ability to improve network quality, ultimately reducing operational costs.
Virtualization can also make it easier to configure networks for new services and service features.
Ericsson’s Cloud Manager provides the following features:
- Self-Service Portals. Provides on-demand control to the operator, tenants, and end customers.
- Catalog. Brings consistency to service definition and modification, as well as to the business rules driving orchestration.
- Orchestration. Coordinates automated processes and manual tasks to provision services.
- Configuration Management Database. Consolidates network data for a comprehensive understanding of the virtual infrastructure at both the physical and logical levels.
- Activation. Manages both legacy (physical) and virtual infrastructure while supporting multiple hypervisor technologies.
- Security. Supports privacy, regulatory laws, and resiliency against cyber attacks.
- Metering. Keeps track of resource usage for billing purposes.
The offering is based on Ericsson software components and is available as part of Ericsson Cloud System or as a stand-alone product.
Elisabetta Romano, vice president and head of OSS and service enablement, business unit support solutions, Ericsson, said, “As operators migrate from legacy solutions to the cloud, Ericsson Cloud Manager orchestrates the complex associations between virtualized network functions and underlying resources. When our customers deploy Ericsson Cloud Manager, they gain a flexible foundation for making networks more responsive to customer needs while optimizing resource utilization.”
