FairPoint Communications, a provider in New England, has announced its first 1Gbps deployment. The company has brought 1Gbps to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where customers will now be able to get gigabit speeds for $84.99 for consumers and $145.99 for businesses.
“We’re excited to announce Portsmouth as our first gigabit-enabled city,” said John Lunny, FairPoint Communications Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, in a statement. “Our fiber-to-the-premise gigabit Internet service rollout demonstrates our commitment to leveraging our extensive fiber network and dense metro Ethernet backbone in response to growing customer demand for higher speed services. We continue to invest in our technology infrastructure and advanced services capabilities in support of a wide variety of new consumer and business offerings.”
Fairpoint is also adding a 150Mbps tier to its service areas.
Fairpoint joins virtually every service provider of varying size in offering 1Gbps, a revolution jumpstarted when Google decided to jump in and take on ISPs. Cable One was the most recent provider to add gigabit service when it announced 200 Gig Cities in its service area.
