Familiar faces on SCTE’s board of directors

June 25, 2008 By Brian Santo

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ (SCTE) board of directors elected Tom Gorman of Charter Communications to serve what’s become a customary second stint as board chairman.

The two current vice chairs were likewise re-elected. Serving a second term as western vice chair is Frank Eichenlaub of Cisco Systems; he is also the SCTE Region 2 director. Nomi Bergman of Bright House Networks and an SCTE director-at-large will continue as western vice chair.

New to the secretary’s office for the 2008-09 term will be Bob Foote of Arris, who is also the SCTE Region 12 Director. Greg Allshouse of Comcast Cable Communications, and the SCTE Region 11 director, was re-elected treasurer.

Comcast’s Patrick O’Hare, an SCTE director-at-large, was also elected to serve on the board’s executive committee.

The other members of the 2008-09 SCTE board of directors are:

  • Region 1 Director: Bob Weaver, Cox Communications
  • Region 3 Director: Randy Love, Comcast Cable Communications
  • Region 4 Director: Bob Macioch, Time Warner Cable
  • Region 5 Director: Rick Sullivan, Times Fiber Amphenol
  • Region 6 Director: Alex Balander, Charter Communications
  • Region 7 Director: Marc Broadnax, Comcast Cable Communications
  • Region 8 Director: Harold Kinnel, Ritter Communications
  • Region 9 Director: Ken Williams, Cox Communications
  • Region 10 Director: Bob Legg, Suddenlink Communications
  • Director-At-Large Canada: Dermot O’Carroll, Rogers Cable Communications
  • Director-At-Large: Dick Amell, Time Warner Cable

Additionally, Philip Hoffman, the manager of technical training and consulting with Cox Communications, has been given the 2008 SCTE Excellence in Cable Telecommunications Learning & Development Award.

The annual award recognizes the achievements of learning and development professionals within the cable telecommunications community who have demonstrated significant success toward advancing the careers of others through the innovative use of cable telecommunications technology-centric curricula and learning programs, according to the SCTE.

Hoffman was honored with the second-annual award during the 2008 SCTE Conference on Broadband Learning & Development (CBL&D) at the Cable-Tec Expo in Philadelphia.

An SCTE member since 1990, Hoffman has more than 25 years of experience in the cable industry, having held positions in operations, training and development. He was the co-founder of the Association of Communications Trainers. He has supported more than 50 high-speed data launches for clients, and he has managed and delivered VoIP training for residential and commercial applications.
