Comcast-owned Fandango will launch a new service in the first quarter of this year that will allow viewers to watch movie trailers and then purchase tickets on Samsung TVs.
Fandango’s service is built into Samsung’s Smart Hub, which is a video recommendation and discovery service offered on Samsung Smart TVs and is located in the “Movies & TV Shows” panel. From Smart Hub, viewers can instantly purchase movie tickets for current and upcoming movies. Samsung is demonstrating the new service at this week’s International CES show in Las Vegas.
“We are delighted to partner with Samsung as they continue to push the boundaries and benefits of the Smart TV experience,” said Paul Yanover, Fandango president. “Fandango will be aggregating high definition movie trailers so that consumers can gain instant access to the content they love while offering a simple way to purchase movie tickets in advance.”
Fandango said its HD movie trailers, embedded with ticketing features, would be built into the Samsung panel. Consumers will be able to browse, discover, watch video content and purchase movie tickets from one single place, right from the TV.
In September, Fandango’s showtimes, ticketing, movie trailers and original movie preview show “Weekend Ticket” were integrated into Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 devices as part of Samsung’s content recommendation service, which is called “Here and Now.”
