Verizon will take aim at Cox Communications’ video customers starting this week as it launches the FiOS TV service in Herndon, Va.
Herndon marks the second community so far to offer the telco’s new video service. Verizon launched FiOS TV in Keller, Texas on Sept. 22.
Verizon noted it plans to offer the video service to other communities in Virginia. It is kicking off the service in Herndon with an expanded basic tier of about 180 digital video and music channels for $39.95 per month. The telco is also offering north of 20 hi-def channels and 1,110 video-on-demand titles.
Although Verizon is offering FiOS TV via its fiber-to-the-premises network, the company is presently using cable-like broadcast RF techniques to deliver video services, though the company has said it plans to distribute video-over-IP sometime down the road.
