Samsung Electronics on Wednesday announced its acquisition of NewNet Communication Technologies (Canada) Inc., a company operating Rich Communications Services (RCS) business within NewNet Communication Technologies. Previously known as NewPace prior to its acquisition by NewNet Communication Technologies, the company is a provider of RCS infrastructure and services.
Samsung said the acquisitions will accelerate the deployment of RCS-enabled networks and enable Samsung to offer interoperable server solutions for mobile operators that do not already have their own RCS infrastructure. RCS includes advanced messaging features like enhanced calling, group chat, and the ability to easily share and transfer large files including multimedia and high-resolution photos.
Samsung said NewNet Canada will continue to operate independently under the existing leadership of Brent Newsome and Gavin Murphy as a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Canada Inc.
The acquisition is the second for Samsung this week. The company on Tuesday announced it will purchase Harman International Industries, Inc., a connected car company, for $8 billion.
T-Mobile announced its implementation of LivePerson, Inc.’s mobile messaging as a customer service option for Un-carrier customers. The new messaging service is available in the T-Mobile app and powered by LivePerson’s flagship software platform, LiveEngage.
The service, which went live in June, allows T-Mobile customers to press a “Message Us” button inside the T-Mobile app and be connected to the company’s Customer Care team for a messaging experience that is similar to the mobile messaging apps that consumers already use today. Like conversations in popular mobile messengers and unlike traditional, session-based chats, consumers can message back and forth over time with a specific and consistent care specialist when it is convenient for them.

By deploying Massive MIMO, a key innovation of 4.5G technology, Huawei said CMHK can enhance network capacity and coverage in heavily populated areas.
